As strategy manager for strategic engagement, Ty supports a variety of external communication tasks, including media relations, legislative communications, social media, and graphic design.

Prior to joining MCAN, Ty worked as marketing manager for Elderly Instruments and as arts & entertainment editor for City Pulse, both in Lansing. Before that, he taught courses in music at Lansing Community College, Spring Arbor University, and Olivet College.

Ty earned a Bachelor of Music in music performance from Central Michigan University. After graduation, he attended Portland State University, where he served as a graduate assistant and earned a Master of Music in music performance. He returned to Michigan to earn a Doctor of Musical Arts in music performance from Michigan State University. Ty grew up in Mt. Pleasant and started college at CMU with a career goal of teaching at the college level. He was able to do so for five years after completing his doctoral degree. A series of life changes and unexpected opportunities led him into journalism and marketing. Now working for MCAN, he is excited to help students find new opportunities through postsecondary education.

Outside of work, Ty loves to explore the greater Lansing community with his wife and daughter. He also enjoys reading and writing when he can find time for it, and is an all-seasons seltzer enthusiast.
