Careers at MCAN
MCAN is seeking college graduates to serve as AdviseMI college advisers in selected high schools across Michigan for the 2024-25 academic year, particularly in high schools that are located in communities with low college-going rates and low adult educational attainment rates. Serving alongside high school counselors and other school professionals, advisers support low-income students, first-generation college-going students, and students of color as they make the transition from high school to a postsecondary education institution.
MCAN’s College Completion Corps places full-time AmeriCorps members on community college campuses to supplement campus efforts to increase persistence and completion of first-generation college-going students, low-income students, and students of color.
The Strategy Manager of Student Success will support MCAN’s efforts in Higher Education Innovation through professional development and technical assistance, partnership building, and grant management. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with content experts to develop professional learning series for postsecondary practitioners, organizing convenings for Michigan’s institutional partners, and supporting institutions in reforming their student success processes. Individuals with backgrounds in academic advising, financial aid, success coaching, retention initiatives, new student orientation, and/or first-year experience initiatives — and who have worked directly with postsecondary students on advising, coaching, student success, or college completion — are strongly encouraged to apply.
Under the supervision of the Director of Community Mobilization Strategy, the Strategy Manager will support various departmental initiatives and projects related to MCAN’s four priorities as described in its strategic plan: fostering a college-going culture; identifying multiple postsecondary education pathways and facilitating smooth transitions; improving college affordability; and supporting credential completion – especially those within the community systems category and those related to network development and grantmaking.
The Partnership Manager will oversee a caseload of 15-20 full-time college advisers and facilitate the program’s relationship with the respective partner high schools. These schools and advisers are geographically dispersed throughout the state. Partnership Managers are responsible for ensuring advisers adhere to AmeriCorps and program policies and expectations, are integrating a college-going culture into the community and school, and are successfully supporting priority Michigan students to explore postsecondary options and enroll in postsecondary education.
Under the co-supervision of the Director of Administration and Human Resources and the Director of Finance, the Human Resource Generalist/Accounting Clerk will run the daily functions of the Human Resource area of responsibility including hiring and interviewing staff, administering the employee records, benefits and leave, and enforcing the company policies and practices. This role will also assist with daily, weekly and monthly accounting tasks such as entering payable transactions, maintaining electronic files and preparing reports. May assist with payroll and payment functions in the absence of the Director of Finance. This role would dedicate 80% of their time supporting the Human Resource tasks and 20% of their time supporting the Accounting tasks.
The Program Assistant will provide administrative and operational support to MCAN’s AmeriCorps programs, AdviseMI and College Completion Corps. The person in this role will oversee the onboarding process and compliance maintenance of members, manage enrollment in program systems, and maintain personnel records. The Program Assistant will also provide overall administrative support to the programs, including in areas of event coordination, timesheet and expense approvals, and partnership agreements enable the programs to contribute towards MCAN’s Sixty by 30 goal.
