Join the Michigan Department of Education Early Middle College team to learn about EMCs including definitions, outcomes, data, and professional development opportunities. Attendees will gain an understanding of the various opportunities to pursue college in high school, including EMC, Dual Enrollment, and more. This session will be beneficial for staff who have an EMC in their building(s) and want to learn more, as well as individuals who are interested in applying to open an EMC in the future.

Creating Spaces of Inclusion and Belonging in the Online Classroom

Ideas for Summer Melt Programming

MCAN High School Innovation staff will provide ideas for creating and implementing summer melt programming to ensure graduating seniors matriculate to college in the fall. We will identify challenges, insights, and key learnings as well as provide actionable next steps.

Personal Curriculum: Know Your Options to Modify the Michigan Graduation Requirements

The Personal Curriculum is a process to modify specific Michigan Merit Curriculum credit requirements and content expectations based on the individual learning needs of a student as well as their post-school goals. It is designed to serve students who want to accelerate or go beyond MMC requirements and students who need to individualize credit requirements to meet MMC and receive a diploma. Several scenarios or case studies will be laid out for participants and there will be time for dialogue around the PC process based on those scenarios.

Take Flight: Sixty by 30 Pitch Competition

MCAN is seeking scalable, high-impact, college attainment strategies and ideas to move Michigan closer to goal Sixty by 30! During MCAN’s inaugural pitch competition, organizations and individuals will present an idea or effective practice (activity, routine, or tool) in college attainment with the chance to win a cash prize. In the process, participants will gain an audience for their ideas and receive valuable feedback from professionals in the field.
